Hype’s intern(al) eyes.

This semester Logan and I were lucky enough to join Hype as communication interns. Hype Group was founded in early 2009 with a mission to provide businesses the feeling of a personal, in-house creative team that drives results. Hype is remarkable. As a woman-owned and operated business, Brooke and her team have forged its own unique path in the creative space from St. Pete and beyond.

As interns, we are expected to learn how to effectively use different social media tools to create, schedule, and monitor professional social media content on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Pinterest, TikTok and Twitter. Our schedule consists of daily and weekly tasks. Those tasks include checking notifications in the Sprout Social platform, checking HAROs (Help A Reporter Out) for potential leads for our clients, hashtag research, monitoring competitors and industry-relevant trends. On top of our tasks, We were given a semester project, which includes the research of relevant TikTok trends and creating a content strategy for the brand of our choice. So far, we’ve improved on copywriting skills and gained a better understanding of Sprout Social, which is now used by a lot of companies in our industry. Being able to learn more from the professionals at Hype, and get advice from them could help us a lot in the future.

Some of the most recent projects that we have found very fun and informative have been a photo shoot for Big Storm Distillery, a local distillery, and Paradeco, one of the newest and most popular coffee shops in St. Petersburg. We have been able to work directly with our brand managers, strategists, and coordinators, our photographers, and designers, and even have seen our CEO in action absolutely crushing it!

Other important things we have learned are taught by actually being hands-on in client relations. Learning the ins and outs of our task management software such as Asana and Sprout Social has shown us how to be organized while handling several clients at once so that information they request is readily available to our entire team. We are very happy to have solidified what it is to actually work and maintain client relationships.

To date, the internship expertise has gone very well. Hype’s Communications Strategist, Adam, has been an amazing supervisor; we sit down, and he gives us feedback after every big task that we complete. He is always there, ready to answer any of our questions. It is important for him to keep a positive and energetic environment while always being professional. Working with Adam and Shayna, our Brand Manager, has been an absolute pleasure. Both of them are experts at what they do and both have been able to offer a great learning environment while challenging our creative conquests. Being in the office with them is always fun since we get to watch day-to-day operations while being allowed some responsibilities of our own.

Till next time,

Logan and Elizabet
