LoMa Village
A team of developers, along with the City of Lakeland reached out with the need for a name and full brand identity for a new, dynamic mixed-use district they were planning for downtown Lakeland’s historic core. Shaped by the life of the city with its rich traditions of innovation in transportation, architecture and recreation, our team started reimagining from the ground up.

Naming
LoMa is a play on the words ‘local’ and ‘makers’. LoMa Village will be an inclusive, vibrant and charming gathering place for a diverse blend of bakers, makers, creators, rule breakers and movers and shakers. This name is an all-inclusive of what this new district will have to offer.
Brand Foundation
Anchored by several legacy businesses, this unexpectedly inviting and walkable destination offers a community for local creatives, entrepreneurs and visionaries to thrive. And it welcomes urban adventurers young and old, small and tall, who delight in checking out unique new experiences in an emerging part of town. It’s got a cool, insider-y vibe couched in welcoming, playful, secret-gem places to explore and enjoy. In other words, it’s a total charmer.
These values served as our guide, ensuring our voice and tone were crafted to be conversational and to appeal to the wide array of eclectic visitors the district will host. End result was storytelling that delights, inspires, informs, surprises.
Branding
For the LoMa brand we were greatly inspired by the artistic and eclectic nature of the district. We wanted our logo, typography and assets to speak to the unique concept of the district and the blend between old and new.
We focused on developing a logo that was simple, bold and impactful with custom details. For color, we wanted to explore a mix of neutrals with pops of brighter tones throughout. The type treatments are strong and eye-catching, and typography will be a prominent design element.
We utilized color-blocking and interesting abstract shapes throughout our assets to reflect the artistic vibe of this community. Much like some of the proposed architecture, we wanted to include a raw edge to these designs through the use of rough textures and imperfections. We also explored layering photography in interesting ways to incorporate elements of history and storytelling.
